Why Berlitz French works — from day one

Unlike traditional classes, Berlitz puts you in real French conversations immediately. No translation. No rote drilling. Just French — from the very first lesson at our Peel Street centre.

Step 01

Free French placement test

Your free 20-minute online placement test pinpoints your exact French level — A1 to C2. No time wasted on things you already know. Your programme starts at exactly the right place, whether you're a complete beginner or returning learner.

Step 02

A French plan built for your goals

Immigration? Bill 96 compliance? TEF Canada or TEFAQ preparation? Career advancement in a French-speaking workplace? Your Berlitz advisor designs a custom French learning path around your specific deadline and outcome — not a generic curriculum.

Step 03

Speak French — fast

Full-immersion instruction at our 8-classroom downtown centre, or live online from anywhere in Québec. Native-fluent instructors. Real conversations. Measurable progress tracked every session. Most students reach conversational French in 8–14 weeks.

FAQ

French courses in Montréal — your questions answered

Everything you need to know before booking your free French consultation at Berlitz Montréal.

Where is the Berlitz Montréal centre located?
+

Berlitz Montréal is at 1470 Peel Street, Suite 316, in the heart of downtown — directly across from McGill University. It's a 2-minute walk from McGill metro station (Green Line), easily accessible from Laval (Orange Line connection), Longueuil (Yellow Line), and West Island via commuter train. Street parking is available nearby. The centre is on the 3rd floor with 8 modern, air-conditioned classrooms, complimentary coffee and tea, and kitchen facilities.

Do I need prior French to join a Berlitz class in Montréal?
+

Not at all. We welcome complete beginners (A1) through to advanced speakers (C1+). Your free placement test — done online in about 20 minutes — determines your exact starting level. Whether you've never studied French or you want to refine business French for a Montréal workplace, we place you in the right programme from day one.

Can Berlitz help me prepare for TEF Canada, TEFAQ, or Francisation exams?
+

Yes — this is one of our most requested programmes in Montréal. We offer targeted preparation for TEF Canada, TEFAQ, TCF-Québec, and Francisation-Québec. Your instructor knows the exam formats, the CEFR marking criteria, and exactly where candidates lose points. Preparation is available in-person at Peel Street or online, and can be combined with general French immersion.

How long does it take to become conversational in French?
+

With our intensive programme (full days, Mon–Fri), most students reach working A2 in 3–4 weeks and conversational B1 within 8–10 weeks. With evening classes (approx. 4 h/week), A2 typically takes 10–12 weeks and B1 around 20–25 weeks. Private one-to-one sessions can cut these timelines significantly. Your advisor will give you a realistic timeline based on your starting level and goals.

Does Berlitz Montréal offer French for Bill 96 compliance?
+

Yes. We work with businesses across Montréal to help employees meet Québec's Bill 96 French language requirements. Programmes are tailored to each employee's current level and deadline, and are delivered in-person at our Peel Street centre or directly at your company's premises. We can also help structure funding through Services Québec and employer training budgets.

Is the consultation really free? What does it involve?
+

100% free and with no commitment. A Berlitz advisor — a real person, not a chatbot — will contact you within 1 business day. In a 20-minute call, they'll discuss your French goals, your current level, your schedule, and your timeline. They'll recommend the right format, pace, and programme. You only enrol if it feels right. No pressure, no upsell.

Can I get employer or government funding for French courses in Montréal?
+

Yes. Berlitz Montréal is a recognised training provider in Québec. We regularly work with employer training budgets, Services Québec grants, and the Ministère de l'Immigration (MIFI) for eligible newcomer programmes. Your advisor will explain exactly which funding options apply to your situation during your free consultation.
